Local RnB Artists You Should be Listening to

Updated: Jul 15, 2021

The African RnB scene is often overlooked but there are many amazing artists born and bread on African soil. Below are some amazing local RnB artists.

Kayenem

Kayenem released a project called Rendezvous on the 26th of February. Rendezvous includes two songs namely Like I should and Got It for Ya. Like I Should is about an unapologetic gone guy. This is the kind of song you send to your person when you’re trying to upgrade your package from ‘talking stage’ to ‘relationship’. Got it for Ya, is like an extension of Like I Should, the artist explains how his girl can ask him anything and he will provide it for her.

Malachi

This artist released a 9-track EP called Wicked Romance on the 3rd of July 2020. Wicked Romance explores the nature of love and finds beautiful balance between genres. The songs have a trap like beat with an RnB beat. The lyrics on all the tracks are very relatable and great for Instagram captions.

Sishii

The singer songwriter focuses on authentic narratives and great melodies. The 22-year-old has an impressive catalogue including an EP and Singles. The artist latest release is called SadBoy Summer, Pt. 1. SadBoy Summer comprises of two songs titled What You Need and Cut It off (Freestyle).

L$A

L$A has a beautiful voice and released a single titled Feel Me Up. From my understanding Feel Me Up is about a ‘no strings attached’ situation. Written by Lisa Maqula and Twamvula Tapela.

Roho

Lose Yourself is the first song on the Ephemeral project. Ephemeral comprises of 8 songs and was released on the 27th of September. In an interview with Between 10 and 5, Roho describes his music as neo-soul meets alternative. My favorite track on the project is Hydr8.

I can not wait to see what these artists have in store for us. If you'd like a part two, please let me know in the comments below. To listen to a playlist of all the above mentioned musicians click here.
